Woke up extremely happy I was able to finish this game before FFXV release. Overall was happy with having gone through this game, it didn't overstay its welcome and it was fun to discover and master every character from gameplay standpoint. Velvet was super fun/fluid to play, Oswald felt like a monster that would destroy the battlefield, Gwendolyn and Cornelius were more standard but still was fun to beat down enemies with them, while Mercedes is my least favorite/not too enjoyable character.
The gladius type bosses with Mercedes were fun though. The visuals were very enjoyable and gameplay, if you're in the mood for an action game, it was well designed. The story was very dramatic, but that is what it tried to do. I had heard in this subreddit that the end had a nice twist, but it didn't blow me away. However, it was pleasing to go through. Overall, while not a chart topper it was an enjoyable game. One thing I have to say I don't like which is a trend of PS2 era and ahead games, they leave a lot of key points open to the imagination instead of showing you.
In the case of Odin Sphere, I'm referring to King Valentine killing his daughter in front of her son and daughter. While I get why they wouldn't show you that scene, since the game looks like a play where they can only show you the present and not the past, it would have been nice for them to show you that scene in flashback form. Lot of games lately not giving you a visual to key story points. In this case its the root of Ingway and Velvet's trauma.Since this is the first game I actually finish since I've joined this subreddit, I wanted to take part in a 'Just finished.'
What did you guys think of this game?. Personally I absolutely love Leifthrasir. It's one of my favourite games this year.I was already a huge fan of the original Odin Sphere on PS2, which consistently remained my favourite Vanillaware game despite its many, many glaring flaws. I thought the presentation and characters were awesome, and I loved the alchemy system, boss battles, and variety of playstyles.Leifthrasir is basically that game with a lot of the issues ironed out - some of the needlessly clunky/tedious elements downplayed, stiff combat replaced with a fluid/fast-paced/combo-heavy system with a much larger and more usable pool of skills, the alchemy system streamlined a bit, and the labyrinths of flat circles interspersed with some semblance of actual level design - and it's fucking awesome. And you even get the original on there if you want to go back to it to see what it was like, or if you don't enjoy the changes. It still is repetitive on a lot of levels, but I enjoy playing it so much and think the story is so cool that I just don't care. I was enamoured by Leifthrasir, I think it is one of the most charming experiences I have had in a while. The updated aesthetics, the care that has gone into the new mechanics, all of it made for a great experience whereas the original game I found a little frustrating.I will acknowledge though that it was perhaps a game I should have better paced my plathrough.
I got the Platinum but it was all in a row over a week and a bit and at some point during Oswald I started to feel a bit burnt out. I say to everyone I recommend this to that when playing they should pace themselves, use it as the chill game between other sessions because it really is a fun change of pace.I also wish they had chilled out on the armor for attack animations in the normal mode instead of just saving that for the xtra or whatever mode. As a result cheese is too efficient and while that is fun in its own way I think the lack of challenge is part of why I started to become so disengaged by the end.

It might be my favourite game I've played this year. I loved the way the story progressed. At first I was disappointed I didn't get to choose which character to use first, but the order is very intentional and in the end I was happy with it. My only complaint is similar to yours in that there are some things that only occur as text on a black screen rather than scenes we see. I didn't mind the stuff about King Valentine so much because it's in the past, but anything that occurs during the timeline presented during gameplay but is simply described instead of shown bugs me. Show, don't tell, you know?.
