Not impressed. A lot of the software is trial-limited licensed, so you have to pay more to continue using it (Norton, Office, Rhapsody). Very unresponsive: applications take a long time to start, or hang in the middle of a simple procedure with no further info from the system to tell you what's happening.

Sony MyDVD glitches on DVD creation, so I wasn't able to use it for archiving recordings.Media Center (the application) works great, but isn't as friendly with options as I'd subconsciously assumed. TV recordings only use an awkward encoding (DVR-MS, an encrypted wrapper around MPEG) that takes up too much space (1 hr = 2+ GB): that whopping 300 GB hard drive space is rapidly consumed. Lowering the quality of the recording to merely 'Good' gets the filesize down to about 1800 MB.

There are a very few freeware tools available on the internet to convert DVR-MS to more useful formats (MPEG, WMV), but it's a pain all around.There's only 1 empty PCI slot, so it's not very expandible. The front of the chassis has a huge slot tailor-made for one thing, an HP Personal Media Drive, which is expensive and not very likely for me to get.Many Linux distros don't detect the hard drive partitions, Hauppage PVR card, and IR.In the end, it's a faulty, bloated 800$ VCR.Just about the only good things to say: the Media Center's (application) interface uses vivid colors and big, easy-to-read fonts; the aquarium screensaver is mildly amusing; the machine stays cool. I purchased this computer soon after it came out, and got lucky on getting a floor model at an excellent price. Except for having a weak on-board video card (which I soon upgraded) it is powerful and reliable. The only reasons I'm not giving it 5 stars is the fairly lacking onboard video card, and the 'personal media drive' bay. I really would have preferred more space for another hard drive instead of this thing. Also, I did not like that it didn't have many upgrade slots available.
Other than those fairly minor drawbacks I really have enjoyed this machine, and with the new video card it plays my games flawlessly.
